LinkedIn to resume: import without scraping

Turn LinkedIn PDF or paste export into an ATS resume — no login, no invented jobs.

Why not scrape LinkedIn

Automated scraping violates LinkedIn terms and breaks often. Verum uses paste import or your saved profile PDF — data you already own.

Paste import: copy About, Experience, Education, Skills sections from your profile page into the importer. PDF import: Me → View profile → More → Save to PDF.

Review every field after import. Parsers miss side roles or merge lines oddly.

Cleaning imported text

Remove “See more,” connection counts, and endorsement noise. Ensure each role has title, company, dates on separate logical lines.

Skills imported as a blob should become a comma list you verify. Drop skills you would not defend in an interview.

Headline can become resume headline; About becomes summary after trimming first-person fluff.

LinkedIn vs resume differences

LinkedIn allows longer prose and media. Resumes stay tight for ATS. Cut portfolio links to one line; move long stories into bullets with outcomes.

Recommendations stay on LinkedIn, not the PDF resume unless quoted briefly with permission.

Optimize headline and About on LinkedIn using Verum’s optimizer — suggestions only, no auto-posting.

Keep both in sync

When you update employment, change profile first or resume first — but change both before applying. Version snapshots help diff what changed.

Job tracker notes which resume version went to which company.

Privacy

Import runs locally through your account; we do not store LinkedIn passwords. PDF upload is processed for text extraction only.

Public share links for resumes are optional, revocable, and noindex.

Step-by-step PDF export

Desktop: Profile → More → Save to PDF. Mobile apps vary; use desktop for cleaner layout. The PDF includes sections parsers can read but also UI chrome — review imported fields carefully.

After import, compare each role’s end date. LinkedIn sometimes shows “Present” for paused side roles you forgot to close.

Skills endorsements do not import as proficiency levels — curate the list manually.

Paste import when PDF fails

Select About, Experience, Education, and Skills separately. Paste into Verum’s text importer with blank lines between roles. Fix merged lines where title and company ran together.

Multilingual profiles: import the language you will apply in; translate in the builder rather than mixing in the source paste.

Volunteer and projects sections on LinkedIn map to optional resume sections when substantial.

After import workflow

Run ATS score against a target posting before mass export. LinkedIn prose is often too long for summary — trim to three sentences.

Update LinkedIn headline using optimizer suggestions; mirror the headline phrase on the resume only if still accurate.

Schedule quarterly sync: profile change triggers a new resume version snapshot, not a silent drift between channels.

Common import mistakes

Importing a LinkedIn PDF with profile photo embedded as image does not add value on ATS resumes — remove photo fields after import if they appear.

Duplicate roles happen when you changed companies but LinkedIn kept old entries open — dedupe before export.

Do not import a colleague's PDF; employment verification will fail. Use only your own export or paste.

After import, run LinkedIn optimizer suggestions separately — headline changes should not auto-sync until you approve them.

Security and account hygiene

Never paste LinkedIn passwords into third-party scrapers. Verum only accepts content you paste or PDFs you upload from your account export.

Delete uploaded PDFs from local downloads if on a shared computer after import completes.

Turn off public resume share links when not actively job hunting — view counts and tokens are manageable from resume settings.

Export cadence

Re-export LinkedIn PDF after major profile updates — stale imports miss promotions and new skills.

Compare imported text side-by-side with your live profile in another window before saving.

Schedule ten minutes monthly for sync so applications never reference outdated titles.

If import drops a side contract, add it manually with the same date format as other roles.

Recruiter-facing polish

Use the same name spelling on LinkedIn and resume — mismatches slow background checks.

Custom URL slugs on LinkedIn help header links on the resume look professional.

Turn off Open to Work visibility settings if you prefer discreet search; the resume file stays independent.

Add languages to the resume only when you would interview in them — LinkedIn proficiency stars do not transfer automatically today.
